Minimum Mandatory Fines & Penalties Relating to Motor Vehicle Violations

The fines, penalties and suspensions listed on the below chart apply when a court appearance is mandatory. Look on the bottom of your ticket to see if the court appearance box is checked. If the court appearance box is checked, you must go to court on the date indicated on the ticket. If a court appearance is not mandatory, Click here. The below chart does not include court costs.

We do not warranty or guarantee the correctness or reliability of the below chart. It should be used as a reference only as the law is constantly changing. The only way to be certain of the potential penalties is to call an experienced attorney.  Protect your rights. Call the Law Offices of Kalas and Jannarone if you have to go to court for any motor vehicle offense.

How to use this chart - The left column is the section number of the motor vehicle law that corresponds with the potential penalties, fines, suspensions and/or imprisonment terms to the right. All section numbers in the left row actually start with N.J.S.A.. In other words, if you are comparing an actual ticket to this chart, the violation section number will begin with "N.J.S.A." and end with the numbers in the left column of this chart (i.e., the first violation section number in the left row would look like N.J.S.A. 39:3-9.a , or simply 39:3-9.a, on an actual ticket.

Note
: Be sure that your web browser allows you to view each column correctly such that the corresponding statutes are lined up with the proper descriptions and penalties. This chart is intended to be accurate. However, due to the rapid changes in law we do not guarantee this chart's accuracy. You should always speak to an attorney.
